Channeling Behaviors - January 3, 2008
The week wraps up tomorrow but a big day that I was tracking was New Years Eve. That was the day that a few "streakers" finished up 2008 and ended the year.
Hats off to (in no particular order); Matt "Farmboy" Erbele, Jim Wagener, Stephanie Kindzia, David Kindzia and Renee Kindzia. My mom Renee got off to a 6 day late start but once she joined she never missed (even through cancer treatments).
The streak turned out to be much more difficult than I imagined (or maybe intended). It actually sounded easy at times. I thought to myself in the beginning, "Oh, this will be easy for me. I wonder who else could keep up with me?" Soon enough I was dropped from the pack.
I definitely think that the key characteristic for success in something like this is stubbornness. I don't care who you are, there had to be plenty of days that they didn't feel like doing 30 minutes. But that didn't stop them from following through on their goals. Stubbornness often is a negative trait, but when used in a positive way it can be quite beneficial. It all comes down to channeling our behaviors in positive ways rather than negative ways.
I'm looking forward to 2009 and doing the new format of the challenge (how many days can I get in at least 30 minutes of training but not tracking a streak per se.) I'm also going to try to run each day like Jim did for most of his streaking. I know it's going to be tough but I'm up for the challenge. I know there are athletes out there with running streaks that are measured in years, and it's hard to imagine. This morning was day three of running for the year and my legs were still sore from Thursday. I have that good old "two day" effect. You know the kind. It's when you have a hard workout or a race and you are sore the next day but REALLY sore two days later. The run was a bit stiff for the first few miles today after racing the 5k on Thursday.
I wasn't going to give up on day three of the year. I know quite well that by now 95% of all New Year's resolutions are in the toilet.
By the numbers;
-
181.6 - today's weight (January 1, 2009 weight was 184.2) Goal weight for 10/25/09 is 165.

-
294 - Days until the Marine Corp Marathon
-
3 - Total Days Trained in 2009
-

I worked in the corporate world (the man) my whole life. In the beginning ,the whole man was on my shoulder ,I was at the bottom. By the time I retired from corporate life I was sort of "The Man" but you never are totally. I tried to make the jump away from "THe Man" a few times but always designed in so many safety nets that I never got off the ground. But I was able to always look at the big picture of " how much blood "do you have to ,or should you give to feel like you arent cheating the company.Therefore I could take off in the middle of the day , come in late, take off at lunch, etc to do my own things like working out, doing personal business without feeling guilty , or feeling like you are cheating the company. This made life a lot more fun. Try it
